Laura and I are so excited that our new art magazine paperswell: modern design ideas for paper goods & weddings is now in bookstores.
And not just any bookstore- The Tattered Cover Bookstores. The 40-year old Denver institution is a destination for not only loyal local patrons but visitors from around the globe including prominent folks like JK Rowling, Ansel Adams, Shirley Temple, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope and many dignitaries and U.S. presidents.
Please stop by one of the Tattered Cover Bookstore locations and ask Pete for a copy of paperswell if you are in the city.
One of my favorite shops in Denver is "posh", a sophisticated and fun shop loaded with mod gifts and housewares. Owner Cindy Ollig shows off her decorating prowess with a metal bed suspended from the ceiling; carved peg board for displaying 50's style painted lady portraits; and mailing tape art in the shape of upholstered chairs of the walls.
You will find "posh" on Denver's vibrant and historical Larimer Street. Its sister store "Perfect Petal", in Denver's Highlands neighborhood, is also a must-see.
The beauty of nature.
I took this photograph while strolling along Boulder's Pearl Street Mall. Among busy storefronts, there is a tiny, mysterious garden with the most beautiful iron fence and showy flora.
The purple jackmanii clematis vine beckoned me closer and, if you look close, you can see how the sun turned the flower's center into gilded silver bells.
Considered one of the country's finest outdoor art festivals, the Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Denver is a mecca of the top artists in digital art, fiber, glass, printmaking, wood and metal work, jewelry, mixed media, photography, drawing and sculpture.
Every year, my artist mother visits to attend the festival during the fourth of July weekend and the 2011 event, with its 231 exhibitors, was as enjoyable as ever.

During my mom's recent visit to Denver, I brought her to d bar desserts restaurant in uptown, brought to fame by its owner/chef Keegan Gerhard, a judge of the fascinating cake competitions on the show "Food Network Challenge", whom we were pleased to see there.
We ordered crue fries with cheese, bacon and Ranch dressing; fried chicken sandwiches with waffles; the freshest and most delicious field green salad we have ever eaten, and the piece de resistance- the "cake and shake" - that left us in a state of culinary ecstasy.

For the finest collection of journals, art books, greeting cards, pens, and stationery, you must visit Boulder's Two Hands Paperie.
The exquisite shop has everything to satisfy your creative inclinations including exotic handmade papers, ribbons, photo albums, and rare antique pieces- a veritable paper goods paradise. Two hands up.

People come from miles away to visit The Barn in our hometown of Castle Rock, Colorado. Housed in a two-story merchantile building built in 1905, The Barn is an eclectic antique shop featuring vintage and modern wares right in the heart of downtown.
One of my found treasures was this antique European chocolate mold to give to my mom for Christmas.
One of my favorite shops in Denver is 5 Green Boxes located in the Pearl Street district in south Denver. There are two stores within one block - one featuring clothing and one featuring cool stuff like garden accessories, upholstered chairs, decorative wares for the home and great cards and books.
This kitschy framed picture from the 5 Green Boxes clothing shop sets the perfect tone for the hip boutique and its sister store.
