Jack Simpson is talented. Really talented. 'The arbiter of Taste'. 'Ten Best Dressed Men in Fashion', according to Neiman Marcus and Departures magazine. If Cary Grant were alive to today, he would seek out Mr. Simpson for his rare custom tailored and exquisite menswear.

Karen Hemphill is talented, too. She's a North Carolina jewelry designer who makes her signature "Hair on Hide" cufflinks and other beautiful sterling silver pieces.

So when designsgirl was given the opportunity to hand letter personal notes for this extraordinary team who recently collaborated on a swell Valentine gift set with Mr. Simpson's iconic "Lip" silk tie and Karen's Fig "Hair on Hide" cufflinks, she was delighted.

Friends have asked designsgirl to hand letter short love letters for their beloveds and I have been doing the calligraphic billet doux on distressed SugarBoo tablet paper. So old-fashioned and sweet.

designsgirl has created Valentine cards for the season featuring her hand lettering and illustration and embellished with glitter, of course. She is thrilled to see them for sale in her favorite local Denver shops.

The back of the card is available for a hearfelt declaration of love hand written by the sender.

One of designsgirl's goals for the new year is to learn how to illustrate with her writing hand (left hand) instead of drawing with her right hand on the computer mouse- a challenging but ingrained habit.

I know I am forming all kinds of new brain synapses as I struggle to illustrate on my Wacom pen tablet but the freedom of the movement allows me to do some fun lettering and here is my first creation- "hello love" valentine cards.

Perhaps when I master the small Wacom tablet in a few years, I will feel ready to take on the supreme model of Wacom products- the touch screen Cintiq.

designsgirl loves wrapping pretty packages so for this "Declaration of Love", she stapled together SugarBoo ledger love notes to create a special wrapping paper for her beloved.
