tools of the trade

I am often asked to share what tools I use for my work.

Each calligrapher has her own style and her own tools to create beautiful lettering. These are mine- a small paint brush, a pointed pen calligraphy nib to fit a straight holder, water and gouache.

I was taught calligraphy by artist/painter Laurie Doctor who began my training, not with ink, but with gouaches (opaque watercolors) so I like to say that my work is painted lettering.
